MORNING PRAYERS for Proyecto Jardin. THE GARDEN NEEDS YOU!! JOIN THE PROYECTO JARDIN ENCUENTRO & PRESS CONFERENCE TODAY, Sat. Jan. 30th, 12-3pm.
LOOK & SIGN THE CHANGE.org PETITION TOO! In 1999, Boyle Heights community residents working in collaboration with a UCLA resident intern physician reclaimed and repurposed a blighted residential lot and transformed the 1/3-acre parcel into the first community garden in the neighborhood. They named it Proyecto Jardin. For over 15 years, loving hands, good intentions, and sacred prayer patiently nurtured and brought back to life this little piece of earth & sky. Thousands upon thousands of sweat equity hours together with public dollars awarded in the form of grants and stipends from the City of Los Angeles, UCLA, and the County of Los Angeles as well as financial gifts from individual donors and private foundation grants, made Proyecto Jardin what it is today: A Place, a People, a movement and an organization rooted in community.
The future of Proyecto Jardin as we know it is at stake. The landowner, White Memorial Medical Center, has announced plans to appropriate this rich community asset and remove all traces of the organization's mission, vision, and programs that earned it distinguished recognition and a place on the map as a "Boyle Heights Cultural Treasure" (Alliance for California Traditional Arts, 2012) and the Good Food Champion Award for Council District #14 from Council member Jose Huizar (LA City Council & LA Food Policy Council, 2014).
Proyecto Jardin where 40 Fierce Farmers who are growing food to feed their families, with plans to distribute a portion of their harvest to families at Ramona Gardens using a mobile farm stand.
Call Councilmember Huizar to ask how he can support the garden. Come and work at the garden and be present and Share your own personal testimony about Proyecto Jardin's impact on you and hashtag and post
